The Law Offices of Rufus R. Smith, Jr. is a full service Plaintiffs' litigation firm that aggressively represents the interests of consumers and victims throughout the Southeastern United States. The firm takes great pride in providing high quality legal service to its clients. Rufus Randolph Smith, Jr. began the practice of law in 1974 in Dothan, Alabama. For the past 25 years he has exclusively represented Plaintiffs and claimants in a civil practice. This was the genesis of his present law firm which specializes in civil litigation representing Plaintiffs and claimants. Mr. Smith is fifty-nine (59) years of age. He has been admitted to practice law in the State of Alabama for the past thirty-five (35) years. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar and served on the Alabama State Bar Board of Bar Commissioners from 1988 through 1991; and was again elected to serve on the Board of Bar Commissioners in July of 1998 and served until 2000. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Alabama before the Supreme Court of Alabama. He is also admitted to practice law before (i) the Supreme Court of the United States of America; (ii) the United States District Court for the Southern, Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama; and (iii) the Fifth and Eleventh United States Circuit Court of Appeals, among other Federal Courts in Georgia and Florida. He was a charter sustaining member of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association and served on its executive committee for nineteen (19) years. He is a member of the Houston County Bar Association and served as its President in 1994. He served on the liaison committee for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama for nine (9) years. Mr. Smith is the only lawyer who practices in Houston County who has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for each of the last fifteen (15) years; is listed in Who's Who in American Law; The Best Lawyers in Alabama; Top Attorneys in Alabama; Alabama Super Lawyers; and is listed in Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Mr. Smith has participated in more than 25 cases where the jury verdict or settlement was in excess of $1,000,000.00 and has represented plaintiffs and claimants in more than 200 cases where the jury verdict or settlement was between $100,000.00 and $1,000,000.00. His practice is limited to personal injury, wrongful death, class actions, products liability, industrial accidents, commercial litigation, automobile accidents, medical malpractice, insurance fraud, insurance bad faith, toxic torts, and nursing home litigation and workers compensation.
